EMDR Therapy

“The goal of EMDR Treatment is to rapidly metabolize the dysfunctional residue from the past and transform it into something useful.”

Francine Shapiro, Founder of EMDR Therapy

People often reach out to work with me because they are interested in EMDR. Maybe you heard about it on a podcast, a friend said that you should try it, or it came up when googling ways to “fix my trauma fast”.

So, what even is EMDR?

  • EMDR is an empirically evidenced based therapy that goes beyond traditional talk therapy

  • EMDR uses structured “bilateral stimulation”- such as guided eye movements- to help the brain process distressing experiences in a more adaptive way. Over time, painful memories often feel less overwhelming, emotionally charged, or intrusive

  • Originally targeted for trauma, research has been shown that it is a highly effective treatment for other mental health concerns

  • While EMDR can speed up treatment, it is case-by-case dependent and is not a magic pill
